A day in Rockport-Fulton

 Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay
Being from South Texas and living close to one of the top ten beaches in the country, I had never taken the time to visit any of the other Texas Beaches. Even though my trip was job related, I was excited to see the differences between Rockport-Fulton and South Padre Island.

My mission was to gather information on new developments in the area. I entered the town thru 1069, also known as Market St. So far, this small town seemed similar to Port Isabel, TX.  Small businesses and strip malls line the street and a couple of RV parks are also visible.

Before I could start my research I needed to have some lunch. Mac's Barbecue is conveniently located on E. Market Street which I happen to drive by and immediately turned around to try the local barbecue. I was not dissappointed by the friendly service and great food. Now I was ready for the task at hand.

I was directed to the Chamber of Commerce by the employees of Mac's. Once I got there the ladies at the chamber were very helpful and assisted me in finding the several developments on my list. They also shared a bit of information on developments that are planned but have not yet started. The old H.E.B. in town will be demolished and a six-story condominium tower will be built. The lower level will contain retail spaces while the upper levels will be condominiums.  Most of the developments on my list were located near Fulton Beach so my trip continued down Bus. 35 and then veered to Fulton Beach Road.

The view of Aransas Bay and all the fishing piers were beautiful.  Most of the new developments such as Old Cottage Beach and Royal Oaks offer properties with a view of the bay, walking access to the bay or a private pier for their residents.  Other developments such as The Preserve, located near Copano Bay, offer larger lots that are not only surrounded by large oak trees but require that 25% of the lot remains in its natural state.

Everywhere I stopped I was greeted by the friendliest people eager to answer any question I had about the area.  They really made me feel welcome and left me wanting to see and experience more of what this small town has to offer. I'm looking forward to going back and browsing thru the art galleries and shops and discovering more of what makes Rockport-Fulton the charm of the Texas coast!
