In its first addition since 2002, the Rockport Center for the Arts unveiled its newest piece of public art, “Return of Ancient Wisdom” at a ceremony Saturday, April 12.
Sculptor Leo Osborne, who was present, created a rendition of the Kemp's Ridley turtle. The piece is a bronze cast from burl wood. The Kemp's Ridley sea turtle is of global and local significance. It is quickly becoming a favorite piece among young and old alike. Children have expressed special interest in the Ridley Turtle piece.
Rockport Center for the Arts' mission is to contribute to the art education and cultural enrichment of the community. The Art Center exhibits works of art, and fosters the performing and literary arts. To encourage people's interest in art and develop their appreciation of art, workshop experiences for children and adults are offered.
Coastal living’s Allen B. Bunting describes Rockport as “A quiet town in southeast Texas that might seem an unlikely haven for the arts, but creative types have been coming here for years.”
The scene revolves around the Rockport Center for the Arts, located along Aransas Bay in the Heritage District. Visit the historic Bruhl-O’Connor home and its sculpture garden for workshops, exhibits, and lectures; 361-729-5519 or

Hooray for the Rockport Art Center for being instrumental in bringing this recognition to our town. Many people fail to recognize
the importance art plays in the Texas Coastal regions.
