A new innovation in watercraft seen in RockportA new innovation in watercraft seen in Rockport
The Flatstalker has a motor mounting plate on the stern where an electric trolling motor can be mounted and It will run for about 4.5 hours at 5 miles per hour.
It looks like an overgrown surfboard with a box that would sit on top of it, which could serve as a tackle box, rod holder, icebox, live bait well, seat or raised platform for standing upon.
The hull has a special suction cup design on the bottom that makes it extremely difficult to turn over. The console will sit in a number of different locations on the board so you can fish from where ever is most comfortable and/or serviceable. It comes with a long pole with a paddle blade on each end so one can stand on top of the console and pole or paddle the craft easily. As long as you are poling or paddling the craft you do not have to register it with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, but if you attach a motor you do need to register it.
The Flatstalker has a motor mounting plate on the stern where an electric trolling motor can be mounted; the battery will fit in the console. Roy said he likes an electric trolling motor with a 40 pound thrust. He has found it will run for about 4.5 hours nonstop with a deep cycle battery and a little better than 2.5 hours with a wheelchair battery. Top speed of the craft with the electric motor is 5 miles per hour.
One may ask, “What is the use of such a craft?” The uses are many and varied. You can use it for anything where you want to go in shallow water as the craft draws about three inches, therefore if you are looking for redfish back in the grass of the back bays this will do it. If you want to gig flounders one can remove a paddle blade from one end of the pole and mount a gig on it then you can stand on the console and see almost straight down and spot the flounders in the shallows.
In our lakes the Flatstalker will give you access to every cove on the lake and to every creek or other water flow into the lake. If you are a duck hunter you can pole or paddle it to where you want to hunt, cover it with camouflage covering, and have a stable platform from which to shoot.
