Exactly WHERE are these lots located? South of Rockport? Ae they on copano bay or Aransas Bay?

By Kenya @ Thursday, April 05, 2007 3:36 PM
Sunset Bay is located on Copano Bay.

By Kim Thompson @ Wednesday, May 02, 2007 7:21 PM
The map location is totally wrong if it is on Copano Bay - where is it really located?

By James Decker @ Saturday, May 05, 2007 11:33 PM
Yes, I have corresponded with 2 people heading up the new Sunset Bay Phase 3 and have even been sent a broshure...which gave no more info than the website. No one is shooting straight w/ me. Where is state hwy 188? Doesn't even come up on a Google map search...thanks.

By pancamo @ Saturday, May 26, 2007 12:49 PM
what is the address? the exact google map would be nice

Sunset Bay is essentially on the border of Rockport and Aransas Pass. It is really located on Port Bay attached to Copano Bay. It is an ok location with some lots having very good views. I don't know if they will be able to follow through with what they promise. Prices are higher than the 1 available (but doesn't seem to be available) lot in their advertising.

By LK Rush @ Sunday, September 09, 2007 9:24 PM
Yes, it is on Port Bay-I own property right up the road 1/4 mile. It is in aransas county and on the border of san patricio county. Every time it rains the ramshackle fishing camp at sunset/port bay sewage backs up. We call it stink bay. 188 is the major road running to Rockport and Aransas Pass. 188 was improved recently so at least the road is nice.

By dwm @ Monday, September 10, 2007 8:03 PM
To LK RUSH--Is this stinky fishcamp going to be sold? Is the backup due to his own septic system as I thought sewer was not available in that area? How does this affect sunset bay?

By LKRush @ Friday, September 14, 2007 7:19 PM
To DW
The fish camp is a separate property, it is on the curve of 188 right over the bridge over Port Bay. You are right, there is no city sewer out that way so maybe the sewage is just being pumped out or the leach field (if they have one) is waterlogged. That place is so junky it is pathetic- if they tear it down then Sunset Bay will have a chance as the area is very nice-great location-equal distance from Rockport and Aransas Pass and Port Aransas. very pricey lots off of Copano Retreat Rd and Eggery Island road- Bayside is going crazy, too. I love the area, but the junkiness of it is too much and a major turn off I would think for anyone spending that kind of money. But the area is booming.

By sb @ Thursday, October 04, 2007 10:42 PM
The property is on the back part of Port Bay, way back from Copano Bay and just north of 188. The signs they put up fell apart just after completion but have been replaced with better one. I never see anyone out there and they have a trailer set up for sales, but no one there? I don't see any development of any properties, but they have put in limestone roads and put down some oil on these. They always have the entrances roped off so I don't know how anyone even ask's about any property. As for the fish camp, it's been there for a long time and people here in Rockport do fish, not just sit around and look at property or the water all day, so I don't think it's going away anytime soon. Yes, it's "junky" especially for yuppies. I suggest that someone buys it and turns it into a decent boat ramp and cleans it up.
My best advice to anyone interested in this property is look at the multiple listings in the area and then drive around and actually look at the property before buying. The best time to look is right after it rains so you can see what and where it floods.

I was at the Sunset Bay location yesterday. The road was open and we saw several sites for sale that looked very nice. We did not find the information center for Sunset Bay.

The information about the buildings down the road are correct. I know nothing about the spetic conditions. I will agree with the person that wrote that it would be best to check out the conditions when it is raining.

My husband and I have been going to a favorite hotel for years. Several years ago we had a family reunion there. It rained most of the time and the roads were under water at the hotel.

I purchased a 1 acre bayfornt lot in Sept 07.
My dad has property in Rockport and has fished this area for many years. He saids it great for RedFish. I purchased the lot as an investment. Not really a fishing guy, so if anyone is interested in buying a 1 acre lot, please reply.

check out an alternative development in rockport (not bay front, but close). Phase 3 may be close to available

ByJason Haynes @ Thursday, January 31, 2008 4:03 PM
Sunset Bay is directly on Hwy 188 at Redfish Camp. The development has it's own water supply (reverse osmosis), electricity, and as a home owner, you would need an aerobic septic system. The sales trailer is gone because the developers sold all lots available within the development. Sales that are now available are for resale. We have a number of these for sell and are listed on our site under "Sunset Bay". I also have a few nice aerials showing the area and surroundings. Fishing is excellent in the area, by the way. My grandmother fished there her entire life.

I am listing 7 ac for 85,900 today. It's at the 1st entrance off of 188 coming from IH-35. It's going to be a very nice subdivision. Already has the first house being built.

me and my wife have taken over the redfish camp next to sunset bay .sorry it looks like junk but its true the owner loves to colect junk.we are haveing a hard time convincing him it looks like crap he says it looks fine like it is ,we are fighting with him and we are cleaning it up.it's taking a while so be patint we are improving the ramp and are reopening the motel and have two condos we are finnishing.got the store open.and bait house .the sewer is all checked out and know it dosent go into the bay.if you can help us covince the owner it looks like crap we can get it done faster thank. if you have any quistions just stop by.

By Kelly @ Saturday, September 06, 2008 8:01 AM
Yes, the Sunset Bay Property Owners Association would really like to see the Redfish Camp cleaned up. The old restaurant needs to go as wellas all the misc junk visible from the road.
Sunset Bay is gong to be a very nice subdivision and we would like for Redfish Camp to be a good neighbor and clean up as we will probably be using the boat ramp as well as buying bait and things from the store. It would be a positive note for everyone concerned.
I will be stopping by to visit with Jack just to meet him and introduce myself.

By Kelly Flanagan @ Saturday, September 06, 2008 9:09 AM
This is to inform everyone that Sunset Bay subdivision is now under control of the Property Owners Association of Sunset Bay. The Sunset Bay Board of Directors have been elected and are managing the property. We are absolutely dedicated to developing, maintaining the quality of the property, and a community in which we all can enjoy and be proud of.
I would be more than happy to answer any questions about Sunset Bay.

Does anyone know anything about the alumina drying beds that are close by that subdivision?

By Ray @ Sunday, September 07, 2008 1:04 PM
Does anyone know when the time frame for the community park area will be finished? Will the fishing pier be lighted?

By KF @ Sunday, September 07, 2008 4:19 PM
We are waiting for permit approval from Corp Of Engineers which should be very soon and start construction on the fishing pier. Initially the pier will not have lighting but lighting is being planned to be installed. The pier will be accessed by Sunset Bay property owners only.
The fishing pond with fountain is currently under construction in common area.
The park area plans are being developed, so the park area will be very basic for now.

Does anyone know anything about the alumina drying beds that are close by that subdivision?

By VST @ Saturday, September 13, 2008 5:28 PM
We drove over to check on the area because of the storm and high tides. Sunset Bay seems to have faired well, water is high but never over any of the roads. Some of the ditches and caverns have standing water but no visible issues or problems

By howard @ Wednesday, September 17, 2008 8:17 PM
what do you want to know about the drying beds?they are from alcoa and they are checked daily for spills .the chemicals it the tank are said to be none toxic .but i know that it still contains costic traces in it being i took sample and checked it at work.theres not realy enough to hurt any thang unless it was in a very large amount. it dosent seem to afect the fishung around here cause its awsome. theres no trace of costic in the bay around tha beds.if any other questions ????

By jb @ Saturday, September 20, 2008 5:07 PM
You said you checked the stuff out of the alumina drying beds at work and found them 'costic'. I'm assuming you mean caustic. You said, earlier, that you work at the Redfish Camp. You have equipment to test the chemical content of the drying beds at the Redfish camp? And you've tested the water there, as well? So even though, on Google Earth at 28°00'32.67"N - 97°10'09.17"W, the 'beds' seem to be pretty full of liquid and one of them appears to have erroded on the SE side closest to the bay, you are absolutely certain that the slag they dump in the 'beds' creates no seepage into the bay at all? I heard the beds have been there for over 50 years. Is that correct? Where could I find out more information about their environmental impact, besides, of course, at Redfish Camp's lab.

By KF @ Sunday, September 21, 2008 10:46 AM
The Sherwin Alumina Company, formerly Reynolds Metals Company in Gregory, has produced alumina for more than 50 years beginning in 1953.
The "red mud lakes" across Port Bay are the disposal sites for the bauxite residue from the plant process and are active. These disposal ponds and dry beds will be there forever and will be active as long as the plant is producing alumina.
They are now using an technique called "Dry-Stacking" to manage and lessen the impact of Bauxite Residue on the environment using these disposal impoundments.

Has there been any recent update to the development. The last time I drove by I noticed a really nice home being built. I was wondering when the park and fishing pier were going to be built.

My wife and I drove through the subdivisions the other day and notice some yellow signs on telephone poles located on the neighboring undeveloped acreage. I believe the signs read "Palm Harbor". Is something in the wrks to be developed there?

By Sunset Bay Lot Owner @ Tuesday, May 12, 2009 11:06 AM
Redfish Camp needs to go bye bye. It's disgusting. It used to be a brothel. Sometimes it appears like it still is with the people I've seen come and go from the "motel". The owner was CRAZY not to take the offer that Sunset Bay offered him. I'm sure he has no insurance. God forbid a hurricane strike. He would have regrets.

When is this elusive fishing pier going to be built? Also, I thought the roads were going to be of high quality...they are nothing more than asphalt/gravel with poor curb construction.
